Summer STEAM Camps

Mosaic Life Care Foundation’s emPowerU STEAM Camps are designed to create and develop an interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. All sessions feature fun, hands-on activities led by professionally trained facilitators. Camp descriptions are below.

These week-long, half-day camps are offered at emPowerU in St. Joseph.  The morning session is from 9 am to noon, and the afternoon session is from 12:30 to 3:30 pm.  The 2026 STEAM Camp line-up will be posted in the spring.

STEAM Camp Module Details

Augmented Reality Coding (TYNKER)

Augmented Reality courses are a new way to extend coding beyond the screen. This course lets students use their webcam to create interactive projects that blend the real and virtual worlds. They learn to control the camera, detect motion and gestures, and apply AR concepts like color calibration and direction sensing. By the end, they will build fun AR versions of classic games like Fruit Ninja, Pong, and Brick Breaker.

LEGO® Powered Machines and Mechanisms

Step into the world of invention with LEGO® Powered Machines and Mechanisms Camp! Students become young scientists, engineers, and designers as they dive into thrilling challenges, building and testing machines that solve real-world problems. From crafting simple creations to engineering complex, moving models, they’ll explore, experiment, and redesign while developing problem-solving and creative thinking skills. It’s an action-packed journey full of hands-on fun, exploration, and exciting discoveries. Open to students entering grades 3-5.

LEGO® SPIKE Prime Robotics

SPIKE Prime is a terrific way for students to learn about building and coding robots. Combining colorful LEGO building elements, easy-to-use hardware and an intuitive drag-and-drop coding language, SPIKE Prime continuously engages students to think critically and solve complex problems. From easy-entry projects to limitless creative design possibilities, SPIKE Prime helps students learn the essential STEAM and 21st-century skills while having fun! Open to students entering grades 6-8.

LEGO® WeDo 2.0 Robotics

Whether you want to introduce your student to the world of robotics or have a student with more advanced abilities, these LEGO® WeDo robotics camps remain a favorite of our younger students. Featuring a diverse curriculum that allows students to explore a variety of concepts, these camps foster the development of mathematics, engineering, creativity and collaboration. Your students are sure to enjoy these challenging yet rewarding camps. Open to students entering grades 3-5.

Minecraft Education

Minecraft Education provides an opportunity for students to learn through various engaging activities which enables them to develop essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and creative thinking. Students can approach gameplay from a different perspective and discover the underlying mechanics of the game they love in a collaborative environment.  Open to students entering grades 3-5.

Rocket League® Esports

 Rocket League is a fun way to learn about the competitive landscape of esports. During our camp, students will learn how to collaborate as a team, communicate effectively, and develop the essential skills needed to compete at a higher level. Camp sessions will be a mixture of learning discussions, strategy development, and gameplay. All levels of experience are welcome. Open to students entering grades 6-8.

TYNKER Coding

TYNKER Coding camps empower students to create through the power of imagination. As students learn coding at their own pace, they build adventure games, design animated heroes and villains, program game controls and motion, add music and program game logic. No prior programming experience required. Open to students entering grades 3-8. Modules will be assigned according to grade level and experience level.

Virtual Reality Explorers

Virtual Reality is one of the most exciting and immersive learning technologies available. Students will be able to experience and explore a variety of topics and concepts. Whether it is visiting Mars or another outer space destination, experiencing other cultures, problem-solving in breathtaking new worlds or creating three-dimensional art, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Open to students entering grades 6-8.
