Project Launch Kicks Off Construction for Children’s Discovery Center

A celebratory project launch took place on Monday, Nov. 7, to kick off construction for Mosaic Life Care Foundation’s Children’s Discovery Center.

The center is located at the Plymouth Building and will include more than 15 core exhibits, a traveling exhibit, birth to 18-month-old space, an exploratorium on the rooftop, gift shop and café.

The project launch included speakers from the Foundation, Mosaic, Buchanan County and the City of St. Joseph. Those who attended the launch also had the opportunity to tour the Plymouth building.

Mosaic Life Care Foundation President, Julie Gaddie, PhD, said the Foundation is excited the Discovery Center will be a part of the positive momentum of a better St. Joseph.

“This is not just about a Discovery Center, it is about an investment in our story, the St. Joseph, Missouri, story,” Gaddie said. “Today is a celebration of partnership and a testimony to collaboration.”

Construction will begin soon. Construction funding partners include Mosaic Life Care, Mosaic Life Care Foundation and a portion of American Rescue Plan funds allocated to Buchanan County and the City of St. Joseph.

Andrea Robinson, chair of the Foundation’s Children’s Discovery Center committee, said she could not be more excited for the Children’s Discovery Center.

“I could not be more excited for what the Plymouth Building stands for,” Robinson said. “Today, we tell the youngest members of our community that you matter. Most importantly, we tell them that together with Mosaic Life Care, their city and county are making a crucial investment in making their future brighter and better.”

Catton & Co. will head the project.
